About our Alpaca Farm

NOT JUST FULL ACCOYO - FINE FULL ACCOYO

Welcome to Accoyos of Virginia in the beautiful and historic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia where we are the primary caretakers of these wonderful animals.  With the only outside help on the farm being a young woman who helps us daily with  feeding and pasture clean-up, we feel that we have a very strong working knowledge of each of our animal’s behavior and medical history.  Because of our active involvement, nothing is left to chance and there is little opportunity for anything to fall through the cracks.

Accoyos of Virginia, LLC was an idea brought to fruition in 2005.  Since getting into the alpaca business in 1999 with full Peruvian alpacas and seeing the ease at which quality sells, we decided to ratchet it up a notch and focus strictly on full Accoyo.  It is our desire to carry on the benefits of genetic gain begun by Don Julio Barreda’s breeding program at Estancia Accoyo.  With this most recent crop of babies, we can honestly say that we think he would be proud!

Much thought goes into each breeding decision so that the outcome is the best it can be.  We refuse to remain static and are always on the lookout for new and different Accoyo genetics so that we can continually improve each generation.  Breeding our genetically superior herdsires to our high quality hembras, we have produced healthy crias with amazing brightness, extreme density and fiber architecture that brings new meaning to the word “crimp”.  They are all an outstanding representation of what we have set out to accomplish.

We were honored to have had three out of four alpacas receive first place awards at the 2010 AOBA National Spin-Off.  The icing on the cake was that Keepsake was also the highest scoring white huacaya and our herdsire, Enterprise, was the highest scoring fawn huacaya.  With this most recent accomplishment, it further proves to us that we are reaching our goals of producing exceptional fiber.

Whether you want to add another Accoyo female to your herd or just improve your offspring by selecting an Accoyo herdsire to breed your females to, we know you’ll be pleased with the diversity of Accoyo genetics we have to offer.
