About our Alpaca Farm

Mt Juliet, TN is the home of Hickory Bluff Farms and our herd of over 60 huacaya alpacas. Located just 30 minutes from Nashville,TN, the alpacas are quite attuned to music, so while they know the words, they'd rather hum.

Our Beliefs

We believe in the future of the alpaca business as a viable livestock industry. We have invested in and continue to breed for strong conformation, reproduction and fiber that is suited for our climate in Tennnessee and the Southeastern US. We believe that the comfort and health of our alpacas is the primary priority.  We are committed to continuing education for ourselves and our customers about the wonderful breed of livestock that is the US Alpaca.

Our Facilities

Our barns and pastures were designed and built with alpacas in mind, with heavy consideration as to how alpacas would want to live. Using ideas from over 20 farms around the country with Camelidynamics principles included, our barns and pastures are holding up to the test of time. While we know you'll love our alpacas, we can help you with designing facilities.

Alpacas at Hickory Bluff Farms

Our foundation herd started with 8 huacayas, and we grew to 60, where we've been for the last seven years (plus or minus a few). We like that size herd for our farm and lifestyle. Strong bloodlines from the beginning have served us well, with easy breeding and birthing and excellent nurturing abilities shown by our girls and their descendants.

There's somebody for everybody at Hickory Bluff, with Peruvian, Chilean, and Bolivian heritage, and all the alpaca rainbow of colors. There are some famous names in the pedigrees, and we've been working on this long enough to have up to five generations produced from our breeding alpacas on the farm. All the alpacas at Hickory Bluff have laid back dispositions, thanks to lots of good genes and us letting them be alpacas. And if you're into showing, they'll do fine in that, too!

Alpaca Fiber

We are committed to the alpaca fiber industry's development and growth. We believe that the fiber from our alpacas is the agricultural end product and that the fiber is the answer for the continuation of the alpaca industry as a viable livestock.

Hickory Bluff Farms is a partner with New Era Fiber, a processing mill just up the road. Since 2005, we have processed thousands of pounds of alpaca fiber from our farm, our partners' farm, and hundreds of other US alpaca farms.

Alpaca fiber is a primary focus, with award winning fleeces, yarns and handcrafted alpaca items all for sale in our farm store.

The Alpaca Industry

We're quite involved in the alpaca industry as a whole. We're members of AOBA, the Tennessee Alpaca Association, the Southeastern Alpaca Association, the Alpaca Registry, the Alpaca Fiber Symposium, AOBA Fiber Committee. Ruth serves as the National Coordinator of the AOBA Student Design Competition, with outreach to 200 colleges across North America. It's another belief of ours: being involved.
