About our Alpaca Farm

Check Us Out at Peaceful Prairie Ranch!

Our alpaca ranch was named 'Peaceful Prairie' because of the recurring statement that our ranch lends such a 'peaceful' atmosphere to those who sit and watch the alpacas here.  Maybe its the Mountains in the background, or the happy alpacas in their pastures & pens, but for whatever reason...its a Peaceful Prairie!

Please see our peacefulprairie.com website for more on our 'getting started adventure'...its quite a story!  To summarize, we started with a single mom and 3 daughters, bravely building a life...and subsequently a successful alpaca ranch, on an untamed prairie in the middle of Arizona.  Wendy started the herd with one weanling alpaca and now has a herd of 60 living here at Peaceful Prairie Ranch.  While we've always been a bit jealous of those who start with a nice sized herd, we feel (10 years later) that the way we did grow was just perfect.  We were able to collect diversified bloodlines from well-known breeders and feel that we now have an AMAZING herd.

Bloodlines include many offspring from the most renown herdsires imported into the U.S like Camilio, Caligula, and Augusto.  We were smart to purchase some older females a few years back that are superb foundation females with sires like Caligula, Don Julio, Dom Lucilio and others.  We now have a diversified herd of many colors, and for a little excitement we own a very rare Appaloosa Herdsire, Bolero.   So yes....we're also 'seeing spots' when we look out over the alpacas.

2009 ended with the crazy idea to add just a few champion Merino sheep into the ranch for a nice blend of Merino in some of our alpaca yarns, roving or fiber that is sold.  We added a rare black Merino in 2010 and are excited to grow our natural line of fiber products.    Our products are sold locally, online and at our Prescott Farmer's Market under our label 'Prairie Threads'. PeacefulPrairieThreads.com

As we go forward in our 2nd decade in the alpaca industry, we continue to expand our knowledge regarding the care and husbandry of the alpaca.  We also look forward to continually growing finer, more dense fleeces on our alpacas through continued genetic improvement.  We'll continue to seek greater understanding of alpaca color genetics and breed for more of the appaloosa (or 'harlequin') alpaca pattern.  Lastly, we plan to keep having fun with fiber arts, and grow our end-products in this new era of living 'green' and sustainably...which just comes naturally as we really have always believed its the 'right' was to live.

We're well known for our down-to-earth stance on alpaca raising, education and sales.  We welcome any interested parties to just call...we're very excited to help navigate the road to alpaca ownership and have many happy customers.  Whether it be a 'spinners flock' of fiber boys, or a show-ring herdsire or champion female producer, we have a little bit of everything and will help new buyers choose the right purchase for their goals.  Our prices are great, guarantees are rock-solid, and we'll always be there for our customers.  Call now (928) 848-0267 or check us out online at  www.peacefulprairie.com
