About our Alpaca Farm

We are Barry and Linda Bolewicz. Our interest in fiber animals began when we moved to the country and friends gave us an orphaned Angora goat.

After a few years, we began breeding Pygora goats. Pygoras were a new breed, just being established; they were a cross of Angora and Pygmy goats in an attempt to produce colored mohair. Instead, the Pygoras produced three types of their own distinct fleece.

We bought sheep a few years later and began attending the Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene, Oregon, carefully watching the wool judging, learning the characteristics of good fiber, and taking classes at the Gathering and at our community college. Eventually we started entering our own wool in the very competitive show; we can usually count on taking home ribbons.

The alpacas joined the farm in 1993 with the purchase of two females. We raise both huacayas and suris, colored and white. Though we don’t emphasize the show ring, our alpacas have taken ribbons at the AFCNA national show, CABA, Heart of the Valley, Alpaca Marketplace, AWE, and other Northwest shows.

We belong to the Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association and our local affiliates Columbia Alpaca Breeders Association and Emerald Valley Alpaca Association. We serve on several committees and volunteer at local and national shows; in addition, Linda coordinated the Alpaca Country Faire and the Alpaca Western Extravaganza Spin Off, and Barry has been elected CABA’s President and Secretary. We are also members and supporters of Alpaca Registry, Inc and Alpaca Fiber Cooperative of North America.

Our breeding goals are, first of all, to raise healthy alpacas who can carry and raise healthy crias. We are working to produce females who will maintain a good staple length as they age, with improved fineness in each generation.

As our name implies, we are low-key and do not market aggressively. We are here to help the prospective breeder in any way we can, to answer questions, share our experience and give advice – but the buyer is in charge. We won’t “ask for the sale,” make numerous follow-up calls, or put pressure on you.
