About our Alpaca Farm

Welcome to Quarry Critters Alpaca Ranch.  Our ranch is located in Littlestown, PA. We are the home to an adorable and high quality herd of ARI registered alpacas. We breed and raise huacaya alpacas for resale and for their fantastic fleece! It’s extraordinarily strong and amazingly soft - a hand-spinner’s dream fiber.

Julie and David Wysong are the owners of Quarry Critters alpaca Ranch.  Julie teaches first grade and David is a construction project manager.  We grew up in the suburbs, not on a farm.  We both had a strong desire to live on the land and were intested in raising animals. We started our alpaca ranch in 2005 as a fun and profitable way to enjoy our retirement together.  We have learned a lot about alpacas and now have years of experience and a growing herd to share with you.  We'd like to invite you to our ranch to visit and to see our alpacas and the ranch for yourself.

Alpacas are gentle by nature, easy to care for and are a great way to enhance your life no matter where you live.  Breeding and raising alpacas to sell offers a delightfully rewarding lifestyle one that many Americans desire. Owning these gentle and charming creatures, watching the births, and raising them to maturity is a peaceful and fulfilling experience.  Breeding and raising alpacas can be profitaable, too!

Along with raising alpacas we operate a boutique called "Naturally Appealing Boutique at Quarry Critters".  In the boutique we offer fleece that has been shorn from our own animals as well as unique handcrafted items. Alpaca raw fiber can be sent to a mini mill to be processed into yarn, roving or felted batting.  Other mills or co-ops take the fiber and process it into socks, scarves, mittens, gloves and other wearaable products.  A must see for yourself what all can be made from alpaca fiber.

Alpacas are shorn once a year yielding roughly five to ten pounds of fiber. After only minimal preparation it is ready to be spun into yarn or used to make felt. Alpaca fiber is very soft, rivaling cashmere and angora for fineness therefore reducing the “prickle factor”. Many individuals who are allergic to wool find that they do not have a problem wearing garments made from alpaca fiber. Alpaca is naturally flame retardant and will not absorb water into the fiber itself.

Whether you are looking for fiber in the form of yarn, roving, raw fleece or a whole herd of alpacas, we are prepared to satisfy your dreams one fiber at a time.
